Amanda Green
Amanda began farming life as a six-year-old in charge of throwing Grandad’s overgrown zucchini down the creek bank. Love for getting her hands in the dirt took many shapes from that point, but this very important (and clandestine) role planted the first seed.
Born in Lexington, Virginia, Amanda graduated from Rockbridge County High School and Washington and Lee University, with a focus in Business Administration and Environmental Studies. She then went on to serve in the Peace Corps in the Kingdom of Tonga where she volunteered at a non-profit focused on technical skills training in organic agriculture.
After earning an MSc in International Rural Development from the Royal Agricultural University in the UK, Amanda shifted to pursue her passion in understanding agriculture through the lens of an industry that depends on it. This began a successful career at several James Beard Award-winning restaurants focused on local ingredient sourcing, working as a line cook and eventually a pastry chef.
Coming home to Virginia in 2015, the Greens found 30 acres of woods and hayfield in Rockbridge Baths, and Yonderyear Farm was born. Their vision for sustainable small farming became reality as animals, flowers and creative floral design matured into one system in step with nature. Amanda forages for design ingredients to compliment Yonderyear Farm’s Certified Naturally Grown perennial and annual flowers ensuring her arrangements are always unique, beautiful, and seasonal.
Active in the local community, Amanda serves on the Board of the Rockbridge Area Relief Association, and enjoys playing with the Lam Handbell Choir as a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church. She is a third-generation resident of Rockbridge County, wife and partner to Kevin, and Mommy to Nellie and Cy.
